Here are the four spiders we talked about earlier. Now, let's imagine we are going to put them in a race. You may think it's a simple as "the spider with the longest legs and/or energy will win", but imagine that it's more difficult than that. The is a marathon, not a sprint. And having the longest legs might be a disadvantage if those legs need too much fuel to use. Or, let's say that being tall might cause a spider to trip a lot. The idea of genetic algorithms is to find the sweet spot where a spider is tall, but not too tall, and has a great mix of energy efiiciency for it's size.
